In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Half and Half.”
One of my favourite places to photograph is Peterborough Cathedral. It is a very large grand Norman cathedral with some stunning artwork and architecture.
One of the things to look for in particular is the nave painted wooden ceiling which was completed between 1230 and 1250. It has been repainted twice and had a lot of restoration work (particularly after a fire caused smoke damage a few years ago) but retains the original character and style.
To save people getting a crick in their neck there are two mirrors on trolleys in the nave so you can look into them for a better view of the ceiling. These lend themselves quite well to photographic ideas which is my idea for the half and half:
Interesting idea and great photo.

Thank you so much for this beautiful post. I have never been to Peterborough Cathedral and had no idea this treasure lay there. The details you capture are so impressive.

Thank you for your kind words, they are very much appreciated 🙂 It’s a funny one, as big as it is you don’t necessarily spot it as easily or clearly as you would think. Being right in the city centre and the grounds are surrounded by a number of other buildings on one side and trees on the other. Well worth a visit though should you ever get a chance.
